Rudolf Bartels (born November 10, 1872 in Schwaan , † February 16, 1943 in Rostock ) was a German painter.

Life

Bartels initially worked as a decorative painter in Lübeck , Hamburg , Hanover and Berlin . He studied from 1900 in Weimar at the art school under Theodor Hagen and in 1902 received the golden Wilhelm Ernst Medal. Bartels worked from 1908 to 1914 in his hometown Schwaan as a member of the artist colony Schwaan around Franz Bunke and from 1917 in Rostock. He was a founding member of the Rostock Artists Association . Bartels painted landscapes, still lifes and portraits. His pictures are in the collections of the museums in Schwaan, Rostock and Neubrandenburg .
