Rudolf Behrens (politician)

Rudolf Behrens (born October 27, 1880 in Teterow ; † after 1946) was a German politician ( DDP and CDU ), member of the Mecklenburg-Schwerin state parliament from 1926 to 1933 and co-founder of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania CDU .

Life

Rudolf Behrens attended secondary school in Neubrandenburg and then trained as a book printer. After working as an assistant at home and abroad, he became a factor at the W. Sandmeyer Hofbuchdruckerei in Schwerin in 1914 . Behrens has been a leader in the tenant movement since 1919, and since 1925 as the executive chairman of the state association of Mecklenburg tenants' associations and editor of the associated tenant newspaper . He was also involved in the advisory board of the Reich Association of German Tenants in Berlin .

Behrens had become a member of the DDP after the First World War . For the left-liberal party he entered Schwerin's city council in 1925. For a time he served as the state manager and editor of the party newspaper, Demokratische Blätter . In 1926 Rudolf Behrens won  a state parliament mandate on the list of the Group for People's Welfare - an association of voters of tenants, mortgage creditors, savers and tenants. He joined the DDP parliamentary group in the state parliament and represented the interests of the DDP together with Richard Moeller . After the NSDAP's landslide victory in the state elections in June 1932, Behrens was the last representative of the middle-class center in the Mecklenburg-Schwerin state parliament.

In July 1945 Rudolf Behrens was one of the founders of the CDU Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In the first few months, he temporarily took over the office of state manager. In the local elections in September 1946 he was re-elected to the Schwerin City Council, where he served as parliamentary group chairman.
