Rudolf Binder (entrepreneur)
Rudolf Binder (* 1. September 1747 in Buhler ; † 25. November 1815 ibid ; heimatberechtigt ) was a Swiss textile manufacturer and mayor in the canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .
Life
Rudolf Binder was a son of Rudolf Binder, a small farmer . In 1772 he married Katharina Sonder, daughter of master Johannes Sonder. In the 1760s, Binder managed to rise from a simple weaver to the most respected publisher in his home community with over 200 home weavers and international trading activities. In 1790 he built the so-called Türmlihaus, a representative residential and commercial building. In 1805 two large tenements were built for the employees . He sat on the local council from 1785 to 1798 . He was a district judge in the Swiss canton of Säntis . From 1803 to 1815 he held the office of mayor .
