Rudolf Bollier

Rudolf Bollier (full name: Johann Rudolf Bollier ; * May 17, 1815 in Horgen ; † February 5, 1855 ibid) was a Swiss politician and judge . From 1848 to 1849 he was a member of the National Council, from 1846 to 1854 he was a member of the government of the Canton of Zurich .

The son of a shoemaker and farmer studied law at the University of Zurich, which had recently opened in 1834/35 . In 1842 he was appointed extraordinary cantonal interrogator and in 1845 a police councilor. Bollier was a loyal supporter of Alfred Escher and in 1846 investigated “communist activities” in the districts of Hinwil , Pfäffikon and Uster . In the same year he was elected to the Zurich government council. In October 1848 he ran successfully in the first National Council elections , but already resigned five months later as a representative of the Zurich-South constituency . When he resigned as a councilor in 1854, he was elected to the cantonal council and began to work as a silk merchant. A little later he died at the age of 39.
