Rudolf Giersch (born July 14, 1939 ; † October 2016 ) was a German football player .

Career

The defender Rudolf Giersch comes from Silesia and started his career in 1951 in the youth of Arminia Bielefeld . Seven years later he moved up to the first team squad. With the Bielefeld team, Giersch became Westphalia champion in 1962 and was promoted to the 2nd Division West . A year later he qualified with Arminia for the newly created Regionalliga West . At that time Rudolf Giersch was the team captain of the Bielefeld team.

During the regional league season 1963/64 he scored three headed goals in a 4-3 win at Schwarz-Weiß Essen and was then celebrated as the “hero of the Uhlenkrug ”. In the following season he lost his regular place and left in 1966 after 51 regional league games in which he scored seven goals, the Arminia. He played for the SVA Gütersloh , the 1. FC Paderborn and Delbrücker SC , before becoming a player-coach the amateur team of Arminia Bielefeld took over and was active until the 1,981th

Even after the end of his career he remained connected to Arminia Bielefeld and worked as head of the security service, as a fan representative and as a supervisor for the professional team. He was married and had two daughters. He died in October 2016 after a long illness.
