Povilas Verenis (born July 29, 1990 in Elektrėnai , Lithuanian SSR ) is a Lithuanian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Energija Elektrėnai in the Vysschaya League , the second highest Belarusian league, since 2014 .
Career
Povilas Verenis began his career as a hockey player in his hometown of Elektrėnai with SC Energija . In 2005 he moved to the top Latvian club HK Liepājas Metalurgs , for which he played both in the Latvian league and in the Belarusian extra league. After winning the Latvian Cup in 2007 with the team , he moved to the Dover Seawolves in the United States for a year . He then returned to his hometown and played in 2008/09 for SC Energija, with whom he became Lithuanian champion . After a year at HK WMF Saint Petersburg in the Russian Wysschaja Liga , he played again in Elektrėnai in 2010/11, but this time it was only enough for a place in the Lithuanian ice hockey league . From 2011 to 2013 he was again on the ice with Liepājas Metalurgs. After Metalurgs had to stop the men's game in 2013 for financial reasons and concentrated on youth work, Verenis temporarily returned to his parent club SC Energija before moving to Gornjak Rudny in the Kazakh championship in December 2013 . In 2015 he moved again to SC Energija in the Belarusian Wysschaya League.
International
For Lithuania , Verenis took part in the junior division at the U18 World Championships in Division II in 2005 , 2006 , when he was the top scorer of the tournament, and in 2007 and Division I in 2008 as well as in the U20 World Championships in Division III in 2006 , Division II in 2007 , 2009 , when he was together with his compatriot Tadas Kumeliauskas the best preparer and behind him also the second best scorer and together with the Japanese Hiromichi Terao also the second best scorer of the tournament and participated in 2010 and Division I 2008 . Together with Tadas Kumeliauskas he is the top scorer of the Lithuanian U20 selection with 49 points .
In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in Division I in 2007 , 2009 , 2010 , 2011 , 2012 , 2016 , 2017 and 2018 , when he was the second best scorer behind him, together with his compatriots Arnoldas Bosas and Daniel Bogdziul and the Japanese Hiroto Satō Compatriot Ryō Hashimoto was. He also competed for Lithuania in the qualifying tournament for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi in November 2012 and in the qualifying tournament for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang in February 2016 . He was also part of the Lithuanian squad at the 2016 Baltic Cup.
