Rudolf Höfer (doctor)

Rudolf Höfer (born March 18, 1923 in Vienna ) is an Austrian doctor who has made a name for himself as a "pioneer of nuclear medicine" in Austria, on a European level and also by the International Atomic Energy Agency .

Life

Höfer graduated in 1941. Between work and military service, and to captivity he studied at the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna , was on July 3, 1953 Doctor of general medicine doctorate and came under the II. Medical University Hospital Karl Fellinger one.

In 1958 he took over the management of the isotope station, on June 24, 1966 he completed his habilitation in internal medicine and on October 1, 1983 he was appointed full professor of nuclear medicine .

Research and Teaching

He was secretary and president (1972–1978) of the Austrian Nuclear Medicine Society and founded the radioactive isotopes in clinic and research symposium , which he later led with his colleagues H. Bergmann and Helmut Sinzinger and which still takes place every two years.

In 1972 he was entrusted with the founding of the European Nuclear Medicine Society, of which he became the first secretary and organized the annual congresses.

On behalf of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), he was involved in the establishment of isotope stations and in Tunis , Cairo , Bucharest , Tirana , Syria and Sudan .

Höfer published 268 papers, three monographs and 17 volumes of the symposium Radioactive Isotopes in Clinic and Research.

Honors

On the occasion of his 90th birthday, a roll of honor was created at the University Clinic for Nuclear Medicine - at that time under the direction of his student Helmut Sinzinger.

In his honor, the Rudolf Höfer Prize was awarded for the first time on April 29, 2015 in the Society of Doctors in Vienna for the best publication in connection with the “Use of Radioactive Isotopes in Clinics and Research” in Austria. This prize is awarded annually.
