Rudolf H. Riener

Rudolf Hans Riener (born April 7, 1942 in Linz ; † May 20, 2012 in Lebach ) was an Austrian journalist and former editor-in-chief of the Tyrolean daily newspaper .

Life

After graduating from the Seitenstetten Abbey in 1960, Riener studied history, German studies and classical philology as a scholarship holder from the Institute for Austrian Historical Research at the University of Vienna until 1964 . Between 1964 and 1966 he completed a traineeship at the Catholic weekly newspaper Der Volksbote in Innsbruck. At the beginning of 1967 he turned his back on Austria and was hired by the Schongauer Nachrichten until 1969 . In 1969 Riener moved to the Schwäbische Zeitung in Leutkirch in the politics department. From July 1990, Riener was responsible for the weekly supplements Tirol aktuell and Innsbruck aktuell for the Tyrolean daily newspaper . With effect from April 1, 1992, he and Bernhard Platzer were appointed editor-in-chief of the Tiroler Tageszeitung. In this role, he took care of the first major paper relaunch. From April 1995 Riener worked as a freelance journalist. Riener died on May 20, 2012 as a result of a long illness.

Awards

After Juan Carlos I ascended the Spanish throne in 1975 , almost a year after the inauguration of the king, Riener was able to talk in detail with the young monarch about his visions for the new Spain. Riener processed the impressions of this lengthy conversation in an article, which was awarded the Theodor Wolff Prize , the journalist prize of the German newspapers, in 1977 .
