Rudolf Heinrich Hofmeister

Rudolf Heinrich Hofmeister (born February 2, 1814 in Zurich ; † June 7, 1887 in Hottingen , resident in Zurich) was a Swiss physicist and meteorologist .

Life

Rudolf Heinrich Hofmeister was born on February 2, 1814 in Zurich as the son of the town clerk Heinrich Hofmeister. Hofmeister received his school education at the Latin school , scholar school , art school and at the technical institute in Zurich. After that, Hofmeister belonged to the first generation of students at the University of Zurich, which opened in 1833 . In 1836 he completed further studies at the universities of Vienna and Berlin .

He then taught at the district school in Lenzburg , where he was appointed rector in 1842. After his return to Zurich in 1846, he received his doctorate as Dr. phil. He then worked as a physics teacher at the grammar school and at the veterinary school, before teaching as a physics professor at the industrial school from 1849 to 1885 , of which he was also the rector from 1869 to 1873.

In addition, after the establishment of the teaching college at the University of Zurich in 1867, he was appointed private lecturer . There he was appointed associate professor for physics in 1879 . He was also represented on the Grand City Council of Zurich.

Rudolf Heinrich Hofmeister married Elisabeth (* 1816) born Irminger in 1838. He died on June 7, 1887, four months after he had turned 73 in Hottingen.

Act

Rudolf Heinrich Hofmeister emerged as the author of scientific articles on meteorology, textbooks on mathematics and physics, and artist biographies.
