Rudolf Hertel
Rudolf Ernst August Hertel (born August 27, 1826 in Schalkau ; † August 22, 1885 in Salzungen ) was a German lawyer and politician .
Life
Born as the son of a ducal-Meiningen official secretary, Hertel studied law in Jena and Göttingen after attending grammar school in Meiningen . During his studies in 1849 he became a member of the fraternity on the Burgkeller and in 1857 a member of the Progress fraternity of Hercynia Göttingen . He advocated the revolution of 1848 . After completing his studies, he became the clerk of the appeal court in 1850 and then worked at the Salzungen district court. He later worked as a lawyer . From 1861 to 1885 he was mayor and from 1882 lord mayor of Salzungen, from 1876 also registrar . From 1866 he was a member of the Saxony-Meiningen state parliament . In addition, he was also active as a writer.
Honors
Hertelstrasse in Bad Salzungen is named after him.
