Rudolf Hohenfellner
Rudolf Hohenfellner (born August 11, 1928 in Vienna ) is an Austrian urologist and longstanding professor of urology at the University of Mainz .
Live and act
Rudolf Hohenfellner studied medicine at the University of Vienna from 1946 to 1953 . He then began training in surgery and urology under Bertrand Bibus and Richard Übelhör .
He moved to the Saarland University in Homburg to Carl Erich Alken , who was head of the only German urological university clinic at the time, where he defended his theses on bladder replacement with peritoneal flaps in 1964 . In November 1967 he accepted a position at the University of Mainz, where from 1968 he took over the newly created chair for urology. His main areas of interest were reconstructive and pediatric urology. He headed the urological clinic until his retirement in 1996. In 1973, he refused an offer to the chair of urology at the University of Vienna to succeed his teacher Übelhör. He was followed in Mainz in 1997 by Joachim Wilhelm Thüroff .
Hohenfellner was the founder in 1970 and co-editor of the journal Current Urology until 1997 . From its inception in 1975 to 2000 he was President of the CE Alken Foundation. Rudolf Hohenfellner is chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Foundation for Research in Urology.
