Rudolf Keller (chess player)

Rudolf Keller (born June 16, 1917 , † November 28, 1993 in Dresden ) was a German chess player .

Life

Keller learned to play chess from his father when he was twelve. In the years 1935 to 1938 he won the championships in Dresden and Saxony. In 1938 he took fourth place in the Berlin zone tournament and third place in the Gablonz championship tournament . In 1939 he was tied for sixth at the German Championships , and in 1949 he was the master of Saxony.

On an international level, Keller's placement at the 1942 tournament in Krakow was a success: He shared fourth place with Fritz Sämisch , behind world chess champions Alexander Alekhine , Klaus Junge and Efim Bogoljubow .

In 1950 FIDE awarded him the title of International Master .
Keller was a graduate physicist by profession.
His sister Edith Keller, later Edith Keller-Herrmann , is also known for playing chess . Both were active for the SC Einheit Dresden and belonged to the team that won the GDR team championship in 1957 .
