Rudolf Leberl

Rudolf Leberl (born April 25, 1884 in Hochsemlowitz , Bohemia , † September 3, 1952 in Sulzbach an der Donau ) was a German-Bohemian composer and music teacher.

Life

Rudolf Leberl was born as the son of Franz Leberl and his wife Franziska, geb. Mühlbauer born. After completing the teachers' seminar, he studied at the Universities of Prague and Vienna. As a celebrated interpreter of Beethoven's piano music, he was able to secure an enthusiastic audience back then. For more than 20 years he worked at the teacher training institutes in Budweis and Prachatitz . In 1945 he was arrested by the Czechoslovak authorities, but was able to flee the following year and finally found a new home in Sulzbach an der Donau.

He composed symphonic works, chamber music, and music for piano and wind instruments. He is best known for his compositions for the guitar. In addition, he dealt with the recording, preservation and revival of folk songs from the Bohemian Forest .
