Life

Limpach was born in Radeberg, where he also attended school. After completing his apprenticeship as a printer, he was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1940 and had to take part in the Second World War . In 1946 he was released from Soviet captivity and returned to Radeberg.

Act

Rudolf Limpach has been interested in natural history and local history since his youth and carefully followed efforts to set up a local history museum in Radeberg. In January 1951, the Culture Committee of the City Council of Radeberg entrusted him with the management of the museum commission for the construction of a municipal museum of local history in Klippenstein Castle . The opening of the museum took place on December 20, 1953, initially in three rooms;

With his participation, a specialist group on local history was founded within the framework of the Kulturbund der DDR . a. Organized the first Heimatfest in Radeberg in 1954. In September 1955 the first issue of Radeberg's cultural life appeared , of which he was one of the editorial staff and in which he later published numerous of his research results on local history. At the end of 1976 this series was discontinued.

From 1955 to 1957 Rudolf Limpach studied museology by distance learning . He later developed into one of the best experts on the history of the town of Radeberg. In 1990 he retired at the age of 70, but remained closely associated with the museum. In 1994, for example, he was actively involved in designing the festschrift for Radeberg's 775th anniversary.

Starting in 1967, Limpach published the “Little Chronicle of an Old Town” in Radeberg's cultural life in 110 multi-page episodes . With meticulous precision he has opened up a huge number of different sources, edited them chronologically, compressed individual statements, added new research of his own and summarized everything in a new, complex complete work. The chronicle begins with the early history of Radeberg and ends in content with the year 1772, which was dealt with in the 110th and last episode, when the publication of the Radeberg cultural life was stopped at the end of 1976 . The scientific value of this chronic work also lies in the fact that Limpach has given the sources directly for the respective event, thus making further historical research and editing much easier. In this 10-year work Limpach had worked through all the files and documents available to him and based the available earlier chronicles.

In addition to his museological work, Limpach has also pioneered the regional research group in the GDR Kulturbund der GDR, local group Radeberg , particularly in the field of archeology . Under Limpach's guidance, extensive archaeological finds from the greater Radeberg and Lotzdorf areas were recovered and preserved, many of which are archived in the Museum Schloss Klippenstein. Of supraregional scientific importance for the research of the prehistoric settlement is the one found by Günter Krause and with Rudolf Limpach u. a. Salvaged and examined hoard find from the late imperial period and the migration period with iron utensils and an oven from the late Germanic period, about 400 m west of the Lotzdorf Tobiasmühle. Due to the importance of this find, the State Museum for Prehistory Dresden took over the further management of this excavation and the conservation in 1962 .
