Rudolf Mäder

Rudolf Mäder (born July 8, 1903 in Uznach , † December 11, 1977 in St. Gallen ) was a Swiss politician .

biography

Rudolf Mäder was born on July 8, 1903 as the son of the chief physician Jakob Mäder-Schubiger in Uznach. After primary school and high school, he studied law at the University of Freiburg from 1923 and received his doctorate in 1928. From 1930 to 1966 Mäder worked as a lawyer in St. Gallen.

He was first involved in urban and then in cantonal politics. As a representative of the Conservative People's Party (from 1957 Conservative-Christian Social People's Party) he was on the local council from 1939 to 1948 . In 1943 he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of St. Gallen , in which he took over the leadership of the parliamentary group in 1951 and was elected President of the Grand Council two years later. In 1957 he succeeded Johann Schmuki in the Council of States . He was a member of the Swiss Federal Banking Commission . Due to a serious illness, he resigned from the Council of States in 1966. Rudolf Mäder died on December 11, 1977 in the Notkerianum Clinic in St. Gallen.
