Rudolf Möller (politician)

Rudolf Möller (born July 29, 1928 in Kronberg im Taunus ; † February 12, 2008 there ) was a German local politician and mayor of his hometown between 1971 and 1990 .

Life

Möller was drafted into the Second World War in 1944 and was taken prisoner of war the following year, first in the US and later in three-year French captivity . After his return in 1948, he began his professional career, initially as a worker and later as a shift and operations manager in a company in Oberursel .

In 1953 he joined the CDU and took on various voluntary functions at local level, including chairman of the city youth council and the Junge Union in Kronberg. From 1956 he was a city ​​councilor and in 1964 he became an honorary city ​​councilor in the magistrate. Four years later he was elected mayor of the city council. In September 1971 he succeeded the late Mayor Ernst Winterberg in office. Re-elected several times, Möller was mayor of Kronberg for a total of 19 years. During his term of office the integration of the 1972 merged municipalities Kronberg, Oberhöchstadt and Schönberg fell. He did volunteer work in many associations, including chairman of the Kronberg Senior Citizens' Union.

In 2005 the city council decided to grant Möller honorary citizenship of the city of Kronberg im Taunus. The twin town of Ballenstedt had honored him with the award of honorary citizenship as early as 1990 for his services, especially in arranging apprenticeships and accompanying young people.
