Rudolf Meister (* 1963 in Heidelberg ) is a German pianist , professor of piano and president of the Mannheim University of Music .

Life

At the age of 20, Meister completed his studies at the Hanover University of Music and Drama with his father Konrad Meister with an artistic maturity examination. He received several Austrian scholarships and continued his studies at the Vienna Music Academy with Paul Badura-Skoda . At that time he was already winning several international music competitions. As a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation, he studied at the Juilliard School in New York with Jacob Latiner , and was also included in the list of artists of the German Music Council. At the age of 26, Rudolf Meister was appointed to a professorship at the Mannheim University of Music. His students are prizewinners in important national and international competitions (including ARD competition , The Dranoff International Two Piano Competition in Miami). He has been rector of the Mannheim University of Music since 1997 and was Germany's youngest university rector at the time.

Rudolf Meister performed worldwide as a soloist with more than 30 orchestras and as a chamber musician with partners such as Isabelle van Keulen and Ulf Hoelscher . His tours have taken him to halls such as the Lincoln Center in New York, the Bunka Kaikan , the Seoul Arts Center , Salle Gaveau in Paris, the Musikverein in Vienna , the Berlin Philharmonic and the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden . He also recorded numerous CDs.

Rudolf Meister was a board member of the Rectors' Conference of the Music Universities in the Federal Republic of Germany. He is the first chairman of the International Max Reger Society and the advisory board of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg . For his promotion of Romanian culture he was awarded the George Enescu Medal by the Romanian Cultural Institute.

Rudolf Meister is the half-brother of the Heidelberg General Music Director Cornelius Meister and the son of the pianist and professor for piano Konrad Meister and his wife at the time, the composer, pianist and music teacher Siegrid Ernst .
