Siegrid Ernst

Siegrid Ernst (born March 3, 1929 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German contemporary composer , pianist and music teacher .

Life

Siegrid Ernst grew up in Ludwigshafen am Rhein. From 1948 she studied music education with a major in piano in Heidelberg and Mannheim with Else Rehberg, from 1950 piano in Frankfurt am Main with August Leopolder and in Vienna with Richard Hauser. At the same time she studied composition with Gerhard Frommel and attended the Darmstadt summer courses for new music. As a pianist, she was particularly interested in contemporary music in solo and chamber music ensembles . a. in a piano duo with Konrad Meister . Later the compositional work increasingly formed the focus of her activity. At the University of Music and Performing Arts in Heidelberg and Mannheim and at the University of the Arts Bremen , she taught piano , composition , composition , theory of forms, analysis of contemporary music and improvisation .

As a teacher, Ernst was also active in the music school sector. As a juror she participated in the competitions Jugend musiziert and Jugend composed and was invited to Japan in this capacity . In 1998 she chaired the jury for the Bremen Composers Prize.

Siegrid Ernst worked in various committees of the German Music Council , in the State Broadcasting Council , on the board of the Bremen Composers Working Group and the German Composers Association. She is a member of GEDOK and co-founder of the International Working Group on Women and Music , which she chaired for 15 years. In 1980 she accompanied the development of the International Congress on Woman in Music in New York and organized this festival with concerts and lectures in 1988 in Bremen. In 1981 she received a grant from the Federal Republic of Germany for the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris . In 1989 she was awarded the title of hc professor at the Interamerican University of Humanistic Studies, Florida.

Siegrid Ernst's oeuvre includes piano and chamber music , orchestral works, song cycles, cantatas , play music for children, a children's opera and performance compositions . Works by Siegrid Ernsts are performed in Europe , the USA , Mexico and Japan and are documented in recordings (including on the Vienna Modern Masters label ).
