Rudolf Nikolajewitsch Bykow ( Russian Рудольф Николаевич Быков ) is a former Soviet ski jumper .

Career

Rudolf Bykow started ski jumping in 1952 at the age of 14 on the newly built ski jump in the Jegoschichinsk Mountains near Perm . He trained with his brother Vladimir , who became World Junior Champion in 1957.

Bykov made his international debut at the Four Hills Tournament in 1957/58 . At the opening competition in Oberstdorf he already achieved a top 10 result with eighth place. He also jumped to eighth place on the Great Olympic Hill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . On the Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck he achieved his best individual result in the tour with seventh place. After another 12th place in Bischofshofen , he ended up with 841.5 points in eighth place in the tour's overall ranking. At the Holmenkollen Ski Festival in 1958, he reached third place. In the same year Bykov also became USSR champion in ski jumping.

At the turn of the year he could not repeat his success in the Four Hills Tournament 1958/59 . He did not jump into the top 10 in any competition, but in the end he was able to achieve ninth place in the overall ranking with 833.9 points. At the Four Hills Tournament 1961/62 Bykow started again in Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. After a 14th and a 58th place, he finished the tour after only two competitions in 69th place overall.
