Rudolf Preising (born June 4, 1904 in Dortmund , † October 3, 1981 in Werl ) was a German Roman Catholic pastor with the honorary title of monsignor , senior studies director , local researcher and honorary archivist for the city of Werl.

Live and act

Preising, who came from Dortmund, was impressed by the example of his father's brother, who was provost of St. Gertrud in Wattenscheid, and studied Catholic theology in Paderborn . He was ordained a priest in 1929. In the 1950s he published some textbooks on Catholic religion. In 1948, at the suggestion of his bishop, he was appointed spiritual director of the Marien-Gymnasium in Werl . He held this position until he retired in 1968.

Since the 1950s, he has been known for his intensive research work and numerous publications on the local history of the villages and settlements in the vicinity of the city of Werl. In 1960 he was awarded the plaque of honor for "extraordinary services to the city of Werl". In 1965 he was elected a full member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia . In 1972 Monsignore Preising was made an honorary citizen of the city by the city of Werl because of his services to scientific local research and for setting up the city archive, of which he was the head for a long time .

A street in the west of Werler (Rudolf-Preising-Straße) is named after him.
