Rudolf Rolfs
Rudolf Rolfs (born August 4, 1920 in Stettin ; † April 12, 2004 in Tuscany ) was a German satirist , writer and theater director .
Life
After the Second World War , Rolfs first moved through the Soviet zone of occupation on a traveling stage before founding the cabaret Die Schmiere in Frankfurt am Main on September 9, 1950 , which he directed until 1989. According to its self-promotion, the supposedly worst theater in the world first played in the basement of the stone house before moving to the Carmelite monastery in 1959 . One of his partners was Reno Nonsens , with whom he said goodbye to the stage in 1990 with the Rolfs and Nonsens evacuation program .
In the 1960s, Rolfs was involved in the Easter march movement . He took part in the marches and, among other things, gave a speech at the final rally in Frankfurt in 1962.
Rolfs published his aphorisms in several volumes sorted by keyword. The aphorisms in the 1980 volume Ask August Pi! have a dialogical structure: the figure of the philosophical clown "August Pi", who Rolfs had already invented for a few pieces in the Schmiere, answers satirically to an equally fictional interviewer.
Rolfs lived in Frankfurt am Main, Waldacker and Finland . His daughter is the cabaret artist Effi B. Rolfs .
Rudolf Rolfs once said in a television interview: "Time is a vase. It depends on whether you put thistles or roses in it."
