Rudolf Scharrer

Rudolf "Rudi" Scharrer (born December 17, 1923 in Nuremberg ; † September 22, 1977 ) was a German youth ( FDJ ) and party functionary ( SED ). Among other things, he was first secretary of the Karl-Marx-Stadt city administration and second secretary of the Karl-Marx-Stadt district administration of the SED.

Life

Youth in Nuremberg

Scharrer, the son of a construction worker and a worker, attended primary school in Nuremberg from May 1930 to April 1938 . Scharrer's father was a member of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and he himself was a member of the Young Red Pioneers . From May 1938 to 1940 Scharrer worked as a contractor for a Nuremberg laundry. From 1940 to April 1942 he worked as a machine setter and lathe operator in Nuremberg and attended the vocational and technical college for mechanics.

Military service and imprisonment in Egypt

In April 1942 he was drafted into the army for military service. In March 1945 he came into Egypt as a corporal in British captivity , in which he remained until December 1947th During his imprisonment he worked as a driver, worker and stoker. He founded the democratic youth work group in camp 306 in Fayid and became its leader.

Return to Nuremberg, relocation to the SBZ

In January 1948 Scharrer returned to Germany and became a member of the KPD. From February to June 1948 he was the organization and youth leader of the KPD in Nuremberg. In June 1948 he moved to Plauen for family reasons and joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED).

Functionary of the FDJ in Saxony

From June to August 1948 Scharrer was a clerk for companies, from August 1948 to January 1949 secretary for labor and social affairs and from January to June 1949 secretary for cadre policy of the FDJ district executive in Plauen. From June to November 1949 he studied at the "Fritz Heckert" state party school in Ottendorf . From December 1949 to February 1950 he acted as secretary for work and rural youth in the FDJ state executive committee for Saxony . After a stay in a sanatorium in 1950, he headed the cabinet from January to September 1951 and from September 1951 to August 1952 the agitation and propaganda department of the FDJ state leadership in Saxony. From August 1952 to January 1956 he acted as secretary for agitation and propaganda of the Chemnitz and Karl-Marx-Stadt district leadership of the FDJ.

From February 1956 to December 1959 Scharrer was Second Secretary of the SED's Karl-Marx-Stadt City Administration, then from December 1959 to May 1964 First Secretary of the Aue District Administration of the SED. Between 1954 and 1961 he completed correspondence courses at the party college "Karl Marx" , which he graduated with a degree in social science. From May 1964 to March 1975, Scharrer was the first secretary of the SED's Karl-Marx-Stadt city council. From September 1969 to July 1970 he attended the one-year course at the Central Institute for Socialist Economic Management at the Central Committee in Berlin-Rahnsdorf . From March 1975 until his death in September 1977 he was the second secretary of the Karl-Marx-Stadt district leadership of the SED.

He died after a serious illness at the age of 53.
