Life

Seyffert studied first at the commercial college and then at the University of Leipzig . He then went to Mannheim where he received his diploma as a businessman in 1914 and later as a commercial teacher. He then worked for Heinrich Nicklisch , whose influence was reflected in Seyffert's later work. In 1919 Seyffert did his doctorate with Fritz Schmidt in Frankfurt am Main and became assistant director at Nicklisch's business institute. In 1920 he took over from Julius Hirsch at the University of Cologne with a teaching position . In 1922 he completed his habilitation and founded the Advertising Science Institute in the same year. Two years later he became a full professor at the chair for general business administration, trade and marketing. He began his empirical inductive research into trade in 1928 with the establishment of the Institute for Trade Research and ran it together with the institute until 1963. In 1954 he was appointed chairman of the examination offices for the diploma examinations of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. He became a board member of the Institute for SME Research in 1958. In 1963 Seyffert retired and was succeeded by his former student Edmund Sundhoff .

In 1964 he became head of the catalog commission for trade and sales research at the Federal Ministry of Economics . Such a commission, which advised the government, had already proposed Seyffert in 1941 and the tasks also largely corresponded to Seyffert's ideas from 1941.
