Rudolf Strasser

Rudolf Strasser (born February 9, 1923 in Steyr ; † October 28, 2010 ) was an Austrian law scholar and university professor. His main focus was on private law , labor law and social law . He was rector of the Johannes Kepler University Linz .

Life

After high school in Steyr (1934–1941) Rudolf Strasser was drafted into military service. He served in the Navy and was most recently an officer on watch on torpedo boats . In 1945 he fell into brief British captivity . From 1945 to 1948 he studied law at the University of Graz . In 1948 he received his doctorate. In 1957 he completed his habilitation in labor law at the University of Vienna . In 1964 the license to teach was extended to include private law.

From 1949 to 1967 he was an official of the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees in Linz. Most recently he was deputy chamber director. From 1958 to 1965 he taught private law, labor and social law at the University of Vienna. From 1964 he was an associate professor at the University of Vienna.

On July 1, 1965, he was appointed as one of the first four professors to go to Linz at the newly founded University of Social and Economic Sciences (today: Johannes Kepler University Linz ). He was elected first Vice-Rector and third Rector for the years 1968–1970 . He turned down a call to full professor at the University of Vienna in 1969. Most recently he was director of the Institute for Labor and Social Law. He retired on September 30, 1993 .

Rudolf Strasser was married and had three children.
