Margrave Rudolf VII of Baden († 1391 ) ruled the margraviate of Baden from 1372 to 1391 together with his brother Bernhard I of Baden .

Life

Rudolf is the son of Margrave Rudolf VI. († March 21, 1372) and Matilde von Sponheim († November 1, 1410).

He and his brother Bernhard signed an inheritance contract in 1380 when they were of age, after the margraviate may only be divided into a maximum of two parts as a male. Rudolf VII then received the southern areas from Ettlingen via Rastatt to Baden-Baden , Bernhard I. von Baden the areas around Durlach and Pforzheim .

In 1380, Rastatt received a new constitution from Margrave Rudolf VII, which gave Rastatt extensive self-government. Rastatt, which had an important wine, wood and salt market, got a mayor and 12 councilors. The jurisdiction was one made by the Marquis magistrate , the 12 judges were from the citizenry to the side. The salt market , on which Rastatt had a monopoly , was so important that the Margraves of Baden-Baden held a stake in the salt wholesale trade.

Rudolf VII died unmarried and without children, so that his property fell back to his brother.
