Rudolf Weber (politician, 1931)

Rudolf Weber (* 1931 in Basel ; legal resident in Jens ) is a former Swiss politician .

Life

Weber graduated from elementary school in Basel and completed a commercial apprenticeship at the Danzas travel agency in 1949 . After a few years as a department head in the travel industry, he founded his own travel agency in 1960. For his doctorate, he gave lectures on trips to Lapland and Russia. From 1973 he specialized in group trips to Africa. In 1996 he retired. He is a shareholder in over 60 companies and often attracts attention at general meetings with critical contributions.

Weber is married and lives in Rheinfelden . He is the father of the politician Eric Weber .

Rudolf Weber belonged to the National Action . In 1968 he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt . On November 1, 1970, he succeeded the resigned James Schwarzenbach as central president of the National Action. After internal quarrels, he was replaced by Valentin Oehen in 1972 . On January 29, 1972 Weber founded the Dissatisfied Party in Basel and stood as a candidate for a government councilor. In the government council elections on March 5, 1972, he achieved 5727 votes in the first ballot (absolute majority: 32,965 votes) and in the second ballot of March 19, 1972, 694 votes. In the Swiss parliamentary elections in 2003 , he ran on his son's list for the National Council and received 787 votes.
