Rudolf Wedekind (politician)
Rudolf Wedekind (born August 4, 1938 in Hanover ; † November 30, 2016 ) was a German politician ( CDU ). From 1974 to 1982 he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament and from 1981 to 1989 a member of the European Parliament .
Life
Rudolf Wedekind attended elementary school from 1945 to 1953 and then completed an apprenticeship as a textile wholesaler by 1956. He then worked as an accountant, salesman, sales correspondent and sales representative until 1959. In 1959 and 1960 he went on a study trip to numerous countries in southern Europe , Asia and Africa . In Nigeria he fell ill with polio , which was treated in an 18-month hospital stay. From 1961 to 1964 he trained as a foreign language correspondent and translator for English and French. Between 1961 and 1974 he translated books for various publishers, worked as a financial clerk and published some texts, some of them political.
In an obituary notice of his death, his name reads “Dr. hc “(Doctor honoris causa).
Rudolf Wedekind was Catholic. His grave is in the Engesohde city cemetery in Hanover.

Rudolf Wedekind joined the Junge Union (JU) and the CDU in 1961 . He became JU district chairman, took over the deputy district chairman of the CDU and became a CDU district board member.
From 1964 to 1978 Rudolf Wedekind was a member of the city council of Hanover. He was a member of the supervisory boards of various municipal institutions. From 1968 to 1974 he was also a member of the association assembly of the Greater Hanover Association . In 1974 he was awarded the Hanover Ring of Honor.
From June 21, 1974 to January 27, 1982 (8th and 9th electoral terms) Wedekind was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament for the Hanover-Mitte constituency . From 1981 to 1989 (1st and 2nd electoral terms) he was a member of the European Parliament .
