Rudolf Zinggeler (politician)

Rudolf Zinggeler (born November 24, 1819 in Elgg ; † October 11, 1897 in Richterswil ) was a Swiss teacher , silk manufacturer and politician .

Rudolf Zinggeler-Syfrig was the son of the weaver Hans Jakob Zinggeler. After primary school he became a weaver and continued his education with his brother Jakob, who was a teacher in Zell . From 1835 to 1838 he attended the teachers 'seminar in Küsnacht , which was opened in 1832 as the first state teachers' seminar in Switzerland. In 1838 he taught as vicar in Ohringen and from 1839 at the orphanage in Zurich . He then trained as a secondary school teacher in Lausanne and Küsnacht. From 1845 to 1851 he worked as a secondary teacher in Kilchberg .

From 1849 he dealt with silk weaving. In 1851 he and his brother Samuel founded a silk weaving mill in Wädenswil . In 1865 they gave up the weaving mill and founded the Zinggeler silk twisting mill in Richterswil. Rudolf Zinggeler received land free of charge from the municipality in the "Garnhänki" for the construction of a new factory. In return, he created a hydrant system with his factory waterworks in Richterswil.

The Zinggeler silk twisting mill in Embrach followed in 1863 . The brothers separated in 1873 and Rudolf Zinggeler became the sole owner of the silk twisting mill with factories in Wädenswil, Richterswil, Pfäffikon SZ , Embrach, Wangen and Kloten . He improved thread production with his own inventions. In 1893 he built a villa for his son Rudolf Zinggeler-Danioth next to the factory building .

He began his political career as a councilor in Richterswil. From 1875 to 1878 he was a democrat in the Zurich Cantonal Council , and from 1875 to 1878 he was a member of the National Council .
