Rudolf von Twickel

Johann Rudolf Freiherr von Twickel (born January 20, 1893 in Stovern , † November 30, 1974 in Münster ) was a German landowner. Twickel was among other things chairman of the supervisory board of the Germania newspaper and co-founder of the Malteser Hilfsdienst .

Twickel was the eldest son of Clemens Freiherr von Twickel (1861-1916). Twickel inherited the manor Havixbeck from his father .

From 1914 to 1918 Twickel took part in the First World War as first lieutenant in the reserve with the Royal Prussian Cuirassier Regiment "von Driesen" (Westphalian) No. 4 .

Since the 1920s, Twickel was a member of the supervisory board of the Zentrums-Zeitung Germania . In the summer of 1933 he was elected as the successor to Florian Klöckner as chairman of the supervisory board of the Germania at the general assembly. Twickel retained this position until the paper was discontinued in 1938.

From 1937 to 1972 Twickel was President of the Rheinisch-Westfälische Malteser-Genossenschaft.

During the Second World War , Twickel served as a reserve captain in supply and railroad units.

After the Second World War, Twickel was mainly active in the charitable sector: He became a co-founder of Deutsche Caritas and the Malteser Aid Service. He was also chairman of the Westphalian Aristocratic Archives Association and a member of the administration of the Westphalian Central Cooperative. Since 1949 he was a member of the Nobility Law Committee of the German Nobility Associations as a representative of the Rhenish-Westphalian Maltese Knights of Devotion. From 1952 to 1967 he was also the chairman of this body. He was also a co-founder of the CDU in Havixbeck.
