Ruedi Seiler

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rudolf "Ruedi" Seiler (born December 26, 1939 in Uetikon am See ) is a Swiss mathematical physicist and university professor . He is particularly concerned with topological aspects in the quantum Hall effect (partly with Joseph Avron ), quantum information theory and computer science (data compression).

Seiler studied physics and mathematics at the ETH Zurich from 1959 to 1964, graduating with a diploma in physics. He then did his doctorate in 1966 at the ETH Zurich under Res Jost with the dissertation: Real analytical covariant functions and their analytical continuation in the complex. He then carried out research as a postdoc from 1967 to 1968 in the Department of Chemistry at Northwestern University in Evanston (Illinois) . From 1968 to 1971 he was a Postdoctoral Fellow and Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Pittsburgh . From 1971 to 1972 he was Maitre de Conférence Associé at the University of Aix-Marseille and the Center de Physique Théorique, Center national de la recherche scientifique in Marseille . From 1972 to 1983 he was Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Free University of Berlin and from 1982 to 2008 Professor of Mathematics at the TU Berlin . Since 2007 he has been the Managing Director of the integral-learning GmbH he founded.
