Ruel van Dijk (born October 29, 2002 in London ), known by his first name Ruel , is an Australian singer and songwriter from Sydney. His most famous songs to date are Painkiller , Don't Tell Me and Younger . At the ARIA Music Awards 2018 he won the “Breakthrough Artist” award for his single Dazed & Confused .
biography
Ruel Vincent van Dijk is the son of a British mother, Kate van Dijk, and a Dutch father, Ralph van Dijk, who grew up in New Zealand . Ruel lived in London until his family moved to Australia. He started playing the guitar when he was 8 years old.
In 2015, Ruel's father sent a demo recording of his son to producer M-Phazes , who was immediately enthusiastic.
In April 2017, Ruel's debut single, Golden Years , was released, produced by M-Phazes. In June he made his first live appearance on the radio. The accompanying video was viewed half a million times in less than 48 hours.
In July, Ruel released the single Don't Tell Me , which reached # 86 on the Australian music charts . In September Elton John played the song on BBC Radio 1 and made it known in England.
In November, Ruel went on tour with Khalid in Australia and New Zealand. In the same month he signed a contract with RCA Records .
On March 24, 2018, Ruel performed at the Pop Spring Festival in Tokyo . On April 4, he sang at the opening ceremony of the 2018 Commonwealth Games .
On June 15, 2018, Ruel's first EP Ready was released . He headlined his first tour in June and July . In October, the single Younger reached gold status in Australia. On October 11, 2018, Ruel was nominated as a "Breakthrough Artist" at the ARIA Music Awards; he later won the award.
