The Rugby Association of Saxony eV ( RVS for short ) is the umbrella organization for all rugby union clubs and their individual members in Saxony . The non-profit association is based in Leipzig . It is one of the 13 regional associations of the German Rugby Association (DRV) and a member of the State Sports Association of Saxony, where it has the status of a regional professional association.
RVS was founded in 1990 in Leipzig. Since 2014, it has hosted the highest regional rugby union cup competition, the Saxony 7-Cup. As a regional rugby association, the RVS organizes the national selections of the Saxon rugby union clubs. The goals of the association are primarily the promotion of rugby sport and the next generation as well as the organization of regular games and competitions in Saxony. Every year the association organizes training courses to acquire a trainer and / or referee license.
history
Until 1990 - before the association was founded
Rugby in Saxony goes back to the 1950s. The stronghold in Leipzig was home to several clubs. The university sports group of the German University of Physical Culture ( HSG DHfK Leipzig ), the company sports associations Lokomotive Wahren Leipzig and Gastronom Leipzig and the Army Sports Club Leipzig were four teams that formed during this time. DHfK was the most successful team. The team won five championships and twice the DRSV cup between 1954 and 1963 and has been the record champions of the GDR in the meantime. The forerunner club of RC Leipzig, the BSG Lokomotive Wahren Leipzig, was also one of the most successful clubs in the GDR with four championship titles and one cup victory. Lok had a successful period in the late 1970s when it broke BSG Stahl Hennigsdorf's dominance and won four East German championships in a row. After the rugby departments of the German University of Physical Culture and the army sports clubs were dissolved, there were two rugby departments of the once four teams in the 1980s. These were the locomotive and the restaurateur.
1990 to 2000 - the founding years
The Rugby Association of Saxony was founded in 1990. With German reunification, the two rugby departments of the company sports associations were temporarily transferred back to the HSG DHfK Leipzig. In September 1994 the rugby players joined TSV 1893 Leipzig-Wahren, where they again founded their own department. The rugby players stayed with TSV for the next ten years until they founded RC Leipzig in the Lützschena-Stahmeln district in September 2004.
2000 until today - boom in Saxony
In 2000 the rugby club was founded in Dresden, which today is one of the largest Saxon rugby clubs alongside Leipzig. In the same year he joined the association. In 2005 a rugby working group was founded at the grammar school in Freiberg and a rugby department of a club was founded in Zittau.
At the beginning of 2006, the rugby working group in Freiberg became a division of a club, as most rugby players had left school. The two new clubs from Freiberg and Zittau are invited to a meeting of the RL game commission of the DRV in Jena to sound out what would be possible and possible with both clubs in the 15 area. At the same time it is evident that many clubs in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia are too weak in members to play 15-a-side rugby. The Saxon Sevens held this year in Dresden shows that there is a rugby scene in Saxony and Central Germany that is too small for a 15-year-old, but is just right for having fun and socializing (rugby spirit). As a result, an “anarchic rugby league” was launched in the second half of 2006, where people meet at different places to play Rugby 7 together; The cohesion among the individual clubs grows and a network of friends is created.
In 2011 the rugby department of SV Stahl Brandis decided to become a member of the Rugby Association of Saxony. But many small clubs have also been founded recently. The clubs Freiberg, Chemnitz, Brandis and Zittau regularly take part in the Central German 7th league. The Rugby Association of Saxony is facing many challenges today. With the announcement of the inclusion of 7-a-side rugby in the Olympic program, new avenues have opened up that give the association new opportunities.
A league reform took place in 2012, which expanded the national leagues to 48 clubs. The clubs Dresden and Leipzig were promoted to the Bundesliga. On the German Rugby Day 2012, the Rugby Association of Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia spoke out in favor of restructuring the German Rugby Association. It was suggested to set up a committee that should give the association a new structure with statutes and regulations. In the same year, for the first time in history, the association began planning a list of men's national teams. The best players could be gathered through sightings and coaching talks. With the support of the Landessportbund Sachsen, the association was able to participate in a federal state comparison in 2013 with its selection.
The Saxony 7-Cup was held for the first time in 2014. Four teams accepted the challenge and took on the task of the Sachsencup. The team of the host SV Stahl Brandis, the Tower Rugby from Chemnitz, the RC Dresden and the team from Freiberg fought their way through the games in the mode everyone against everyone. After 3 wins in 3 games, the pitcher's coach Freiberg received the winner's challenge cup from the hands of the chairman of the Rugby Association of Saxony and they will now host the next 7-a-side rugby Sachsen Cup on their home ground next year.
In August 2014, the Rugby Association of Saxony conducted a four-day training camp with sighting under the guidance of the young coaches Falk Müller (Leipzig), Lars Wochatz (Leipzig) and Martin Wittig (Brandis). The event was conceived as a mixture of training camp and sighting. Participants from three clubs (RC Leipzig, Rugby Club Leipzig Scorpions and SV Stahl Brandis) took part in the event. In the end, the strengths and weaknesses could be shown. With the results obtained, it was now possible to compare the performance of the young Saxon players with those of the U16 national players.
On September 5, 2014, the seventh member club, the rugby club Leipzig Scorpions, was accepted into the association.
