The Berliner Rugby-Verband eV is a German rugby union association based in Berlin . It is one of the 13 regional associations of the German Rugby Association (DRV) and a member of the Berlin State Sports Association .

history

The Berlin Rugby Association (BRV) was founded in West Berlin in 1952 . Its forerunners were the Berlin-Brandenburg Rugby Association and the Brandenburg-Central German Rugby Association 1924–1930. In 2018 it consists of nine rugby clubs, the associated Australian Football Club "Crocodiles" and the rugby referees association BRURS (Berlin Rugby Union Referees Society). Three of these clubs have only been formed in the previous five years: the Berlin Irish Rugby Football Club, the Coepenick Captains (Rahnsdorf) and the RC Berlin Grizzlies. The BRV has around 1350 members in 2018. In 2000 there were 785, in 1990 there were 640 members and in 1980 there were 526.

The traditional 15-a-side rugby , the Olympic 7-a-side rugby , school rugby (from 6 years) and girls and women rugby are actively pursued in Berlin . There is also touch rugby (i.e. without tackling ) and the like. a. at the Berlin RC. The seven rugby clubs in Brandenburg (in Brandenburg / Havel, Hennigsdorf, Hohen Neuendorf, Oranienburg, Potsdam, Trebbin and Velten) form an independent association and belong to the Brandenburg State Sports Association . However, there are occasional syndicates that cross federal states, for example the U18 was the syndicate of the Berliner Sport-Club (BSC) with the RC Velten until 2015 and in the 2017/2018 and 2018/19 seasons the Berlin Irish RFC formed with the RC Trebbin is a syndicate in the Regionalliga Nordost. Member clubs

The Berlin Rugby Club (BRC), founded in 1926, currently provides three men's teams in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga and the Regionalliga, a mixed girls / women team. The BRC uses a space in Zehlendorf , in Jungfernheide-Park and in the Olympia Park . The BRC has youth teams in all age groups with almost 400 members. The Rugby Klub 03 Berlin (RK 03 Berlin), founded in 1967 as the rugby section of the BSG Post Berlin in Weissensee . Today the association has three seats in the Buschallee. Two men's teams in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga as well as a women's team and junior teams in the age groups U6 to U14. In 2018 the association has more than 400 members. He is the organizer of the Berlin 7s , an annual international tournament for men's and women's teams.

Berliner SV 1892 in Wilmersdorf , on Forckenbeckstrasse. Formed in 1936 when the rugby team from Tennis Borussia changed completely to BSV in 1892. There are two men's and one women's teams, junior teams U8 to U16, the rugby department had more than 200 members in 2018.

The Berliner Sport-Club (BSC) is located in Wilmersdorf. The rugby division was established in 1934. The BSC men play in the regional league. The team consists mostly of students.

BSC-Bruisers claims to be the first and only gay team in Germany. The active players have joined the Berliner Sport-Club (BSC) as an independent team, but have formed a community with the 2nd team of the RC Berlin Grizzlies since the 2019/20 season. They play their games in Oranienburg.

Berlin Bruisers RFC, founded in 2012. This club continues to exist alongside the BSC Bruisers, but they do not provide a playing team.

Berlin Grizzlies , Köpenicker Landstrasse. You were promoted to the 1st Bundesliga in 2017. In 2017 they had around 45 members as well as school working groups. A second team has been playing in the regional league since 2018.

Coepenick Captains. The team was founded in December 2015 as a 7-a-side rugby team and is part of the United Sports Association Rahnsdorf 49. Your 7-man team successfully took part in the Central German 7-a-side rugby championship and, since 2016, in the Berlin-Brandenburg 7s (BB7s).

Berlin Irish RFC. The club, which was newly formed in 2016, formed a syndicate with the RC Trebbin (Rugby Association Brandenburg) until 2019, where home games are also played. It consists of German and English speaking players.

The Berlin Rugby Union Referees Society (BRURS) was founded in the mid-1980s by referees from the Berlin Infantry Brigade and civilian employees of the British Army with German participation. It has more than 30 members, most of whom are active arbitrators from Berlin, Brandenburg and Saxony .
