The Alt-Signau ruins are the ruins of a medieval hilltop castle on a hill above the stone mill in the Swiss municipality of Bowil in the canton of Bern .

history

The castle was the ancestral seat of the Barons von Signau. The family was first mentioned in 1130 under Werner von Signau. The castle was used to protect and control the route between Emmental and Aare valley . In the middle of the 14th century the castle was given up in favor of Neu-Signau Castle .

The ruin is comparatively well preserved (remains of the wall).
