The shore dock or beach dock ( Rumex maritimus ) is a species of the ampfer genus ( Rumex ) in the knotweed family (Polygonaceae).
description
The dock dock is a deciduous, annual herbaceous plant that reaches a height of 10 to 60 centimeters. It is golden yellow to brownish in color when the fruit ripe.
The flowering period is between July and September. The inflorescences are usually built densely. The flowers themselves consist of six tepals , the anthers are 0.4 to 0.6 millimeters long, there are three stigmas .
The fruits are triangular, not winged and stand on thin, thread-like fruit stalks. They are completely enveloped by the valves when the fruit is ripe . The valves are golden brown in color, 2.5 to 3 (rarely up to 3.5) millimeters long and oval-triangular in shape. On both sides of the blades there are two (rarely three) bristle-like teeth, these are longer than the width of the blades. The valves are still pointed. The calluses are narrow and pointed at the front.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 40.
Occurrence
Rumex maritimus is circumpolar . It is native to Europe, North and South America, the temperate zones of Asia and Myanmar. It occurs, for example, in Germany and France. The dock dock is often found in very humid, sometimes flooded locations such as the banks of bodies of water or ruderal areas that are humid. It thrives on wet, summer-dry, nutrient-rich, often salty, humus-rich, more or less open mud soils. He is a character species of Rumicetum maritimi from the association Bidention tripartiti.
