Runar Tafjord (born December 14, 1957 in Langevåg ) is a Norwegian French horn player and conductor who has emerged in both jazz and other genres.

Tafjord comes from his musical family; the tuba player Stein Erik Tafjord is his brother, the horn player Hild Sofie Tafjord is his niece. He graduated from the Norges musikkhøgskole in Oslo and played for many years in various classical orchestras such as the Oslo Filharmoniske Orkester , Den Norske Operas Orkester , Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester and the Gothenburg Philharmonic Orchestra . Since it was founded in 1981, he has been part of the Brazz Brothers , with whom he has released various albums since 1987. He was also involved in albums by Mikhail Alperin , Henry Kaiser / David Lindley , Jan Eggum, Jan Magne Førde and Povl Dissing / Benny Andersen . Tom Lord lists 18 recordings with him between 1986 and 1999 in his Jazz Discography .

Tafjord also works as a studio musician (e.g. for Kathryn Tickell), as an arranger and as a conductor. In 2011 he received the "Statens arbeidsstipend" from the Norwegian government.
