The Runners Point Group ( spelling RUNNERS POINT ) is a trading company in the field of sports and lifestyle items based in Recklinghausen.

history

Runners Point was founded in 1984 as a subsidiary of Karstadt AG . 2003 took place with the opening of the first Sidestep Stores in CentrO Oberhausen the establishment of the sales concept SideStep . After a management buy-out with the support of the Hannover Finanz Group , Runners Point became independent in 2005. In 2013, the listed US company Foot Locker, Inc. acquired 100% of the shares in what was then Runners Point GmbH. The current managing directors are Jacobus AM van der Staak and Antonius AM Verwijmeren. In May 2020 it was announced that all Runners Point branches will be closed. 73 branches in Germany and three in Switzerland are affected. This does not apply to the Foot Locker and Sidestep brands.

The company has branches mainly in larger cities. The company's headquarters with administration and central warehouse is in Recklinghausen . The company currently employs over 2000 people.

The company offers two branch concepts and mail order business with different focuses and its own customer orientations:

  • Runners Point : Biggest and oldest sales concept with 130 branches (only 99 since the takeover by Footlocker) in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Since 1984 the founding concept has concentrated on running and fashionable sports shoes ( sneakers ).
  • Sidestep : Lifestyle and sneaker concept with over 80 branches (only 59 since the takeover by Footlocker) in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands. For the flagship store on Schildergasse in Cologne, Sidestep received the “Goldene Flamme 2007” design award. The Sidestep Store, which opened in October 2009 on Ehrenstrasse in Cologne, is represented under “The World's Best New Fashion Stores” in “The Store Book”.

Awards

In 2009 the company received the "Turnarounder of the Year 2009" from the auditing company BDO and the business magazine impulse . This award recognizes the performance of many German companies in maintaining jobs in economically difficult situations and in giving their companies a future. In addition to this trend reversal, the jury primarily assessed the consistent implementation of the redevelopment concept.

Runners Point was rated as the best running shoe retailer in the “Laufladen im Check” section of Fit for Fun magazine (issue 6/09).

In March 2011, the editors of tested.de tested five online shops with extensive running and jogging offers. The test winner was the online shop runnerspoint.de.

The online shop also took first place in the online shop check of the March / April 2011 issue of the running magazine aktiv run .
