International contacts

The opening of the school to other European and non-European countries is a priority goal and thus makes a contribution to education for Europe and international understanding. The high school wants the students to maintain their language skills, break down prejudices, make international friendships and broaden their horizons. The contacts to our partner schools should give the learners an insight into other school systems and into the way of life of the partners abroad. In addition to promoting language skills, the aim of these encounters is also to develop new cultural realities in family, school and leisure time. In addition, intercultural learning should arouse and promote young people's interest in our country's relations with its European and non-European partners. The school therefore supports student exchange trips and stays abroad for individual students. She also regularly accepts guest students from other countries. The grammar school has a Polish partner school, the Miejskie Gimnazjum in Chodziez . Every year around 25 young people take part in an exchange with this school. Furthermore, friendly relations are maintained with two partner schools in Francophone Switzerland. Since the school year 2000/2001 there have been regular exchanges with the Lycée Jean-Piaget in Neuchâtel . Another partner school, the Collège Madame de Staël from Geneva, was added in the school year 2004/2005 , which passed on its exchange in the school year 2008/09 to the Collège Rousseau, also in Geneva. The French students in grade 9 take part in the 8-day exchange with Geneva, those of 11 / EF in the one with Neuchâtel. During this time, the young people are housed in the families of their corres and sit in on their lessons. There is a supporting program, which includes exploring Neuchâtel or Geneva and the surrounding area, but also day trips, e.g. B. to Bern or to Annecy in France.

The BOSS module is a seminar on vocational orientation for students at the end of secondary level I with partners outside of school, such as the district craftsmen, the University of Münster and the employment agency .

Media concept

There are two computer rooms with multimedia-equipped PCs in the school network. Every subject given at the Rupert-Neudeck-Gymnasium contributes to media education with its possibilities. These are recorded in the curriculum of the individual subjects within the school program. The aim is to sustainably promote the media skills of the students.

Political, social and community engagement

The grammar school is particularly involved in the political and social area. The focus is on democratic processes and projects in order to guarantee the sustainability of decisions and implementation. Together with the Nottuln community, students are prepared to use resources responsibly.

The Polit-Café

The social science courses of the upper level organize public panel discussions with audience participation at regular intervals. Speakers from politics, business and civil society are invited to current topics and problems to discuss with the moderators (two students of the respective course) and the audience and to argue about possible solutions. All interested citizens are invited. Since it was founded in 2007 by teacher Werner Völlering , the Polit-Café has become an integral part of the activities in the Nottuln community. Discussions take place, for example, on upcoming elections, but also on socio-political issues such as digitization. Prominent guests included Sylvia Löhrmann and Robert Habeck .

Student household

Every year the students receive a certain amount from the municipality. The student council determines proposals from the student body about how the money should be used and the entire student body then votes.

"GyNoFairnascht"

The student company "GyNoFairnascht" has launched a project course in economics. The student company sells fair trade sweets, bananas and stationery. Some of the sales take place during the breaks, in the staff room and at events. The grammar school is also trying to apply as a Fairtrade school. In order to increase sales of the student company's products, 5th and 7th grades design advertisements for the products.

Sponsorship run

The high school supports social projects in Brazil and Africa in cooperation with the Joao Pessoa working group. For this purpose, various events take place in the school every year. The sponsorship run should focus on the mission sister and doctor Dr. Support Raphaela dealers who have been building and expanding a school in Tanzania for years.

social commitment

Part of the school program is what is known as social engagement . Each student between the ninth and eleventh grade (Q1) should take on a social task in school or outside of school for about six months. The areas of responsibility range from homework supervision and library work to managing working groups and taking on organizational tasks at school to looking after senior citizens in old people's homes or youth teams in sports clubs. Participation in the school medical service or participation in the student council also counts as social engagement. With these and other activities, the school takes part in the “School of the Future - Education for Sustainability” certification program. In addition, she has received several awards for her democratic education through the democratic action funding program .

Project "lid on it"

The school collects plastic lids to recycle and donate the proceeds. In the cafeteria, anyone can throw the lids into a bag provided. This was promoted again on the UNESCO project day: the students asked people about their plastic lids and were even allowed to unscrew the lids in beverage markets.

Support association

The Friends of the Rupert-Neudeck-Gymnasium supports many activities and projects. For example, the association promotes “coolness” training for boys and “power” training for girls in grades 7 and 8, but supports the theater group, the sound group, the Lions Quest project and the “DELF” exam also rhetoric seminars, a professional aptitude test and an ADAC driver safety training course for high school students.

With a little help from teachers, the pupils create their own school newspaper and thus record everyday school life. Most of the reports are about school projects. In the part "The Rupees", which is made exclusively by students, the children create several entertainment pages with jokes, questions for teachers and other categories.

School building and architecture

The school building is divided into several pavilions, which are grouped around large outdoor areas. Two pavilions each form a thematic area, such as art / music and natural sciences. The complex also has a multi-purpose hall, a cafeteria and a forum.
