Gansler first became known as a preacher in Augsburg, later he also made a name for himself as an author. Gansler's writings were widely read in his day. His best-known collection of tracts bears the title Lugenschmid, that is: Under the appearance of truth hidden, but now discovered world fraud . It appeared in three parts between 1697 and 1700.

The work is written in the spirit of Abraham a Sancta Clara and, like the writings of the famous model, is characterized by a relaxed tone and humor. The Lugenschmid is also a treasure trove for numerous and partly forgotten proverbs and sayings.
