Elfriede Moser-Rath

Elfriede Moser-Rath (born February 3, 1926 in Vienna , † 1993 in Unterhaching ) was an Austrian folklorist and storyteller .

She did her doctorate in Vienna in 1949 with the thesis Studies on Source Studies and Motifs of Upper Styrian Folk Tales from the Pramberger Collection .

In 1955 she married Hans Moser, the head of the Bavarian State Office for Folklore in Munich , and left Vienna, where she had received her first job at the Austrian Museum of Folklore. In 1969 she went to Göttingen as an assistant , where she worked on the editorial team of the Encyclopedia of Fairy Tales. In 1982 she became a professor of folklore.

The scholar was one of the outstanding representatives of historical narrative research, which has presented pioneering source works, particularly in the field of baroque Catholic sermon literature . In addition, she also researched the literature of the early modern period.
