Rupprecht Podszun

Rupprecht Podszun (* 1976 in Brilon ) is a German lawyer and university professor . At the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf he has held the chair for civil law, German and European competition law and director of the Institute for Cartel Law (IKartR) since the winter semester 2016/17. He has also been an Affiliated Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Munich since 2013 .

Career

Rupprecht Podszun completed his studies and legal clerkship in Heidelberg, London ( King's College London ), Munich and Geneva. His doctorate followed in 2003 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich on the subject of international competition law . From 2005 to 2007 he put in a two-year post as a speaker at the Federal Cartel Office in Bonn and then returned to research. From 2007 to 2012 he was a Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, Munich, and completed his habilitation in 2012 under his academic teacher Josef Drexl at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich on the subject of economic order through civil courts .

In 2013 he accepted an appointment at the University of Bayreuth as the successor to Ansgar Ohly , where he held Chair VIII for Civil Law, Intellectual Property and Business Law from 2013 to 2016. In the 2016/17 winter semester, he was offered a position at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf , which he accepted in view of the focus on competition law in Düsseldorf. Since then he has held the chair for civil law, German and European competition law. From January to March 2017, he made a research stay as a visiting scholar at the University of Cambridge , Center for Intellectual Property and Information Law.

Podszun is one of the managing directors of the Institute for Antitrust Law at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf.

Research priorities

In his research, Rupprecht Podszun deals with antitrust and competition law, in particular with a focus on the media and internet industry, state economic activity and interfaces with intellectual property law; in addition, research on the fundamentals of private law ("evolutionary legal theory") and legal questions of the theater.

Hearing as an expert in the economic committee of the German Bundestag on the 9th amendment to the GWB 2017

Expert activity u. a. for the Federal Ministry of Economics (to enforce consumer law through the Federal Cartel Office) and the Federal Ministry of Justice (to the law against dubious business practices)

Hearing as an expert by the Federal-State Commission on media convergence 2015 and by the government factions in the German Bundestag on the 2016 amendment to the GWB

Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Research Institute for Economic Constitution and Competition (FIW) (since 2016), on the board of the Academic Society for Competition Law (Ascola) (since 2011), on the board of the Theodor Heuss Foundation (since 2011), on the advisory board of democratically acting eV (since 2013) and on the board of the Köhler-Osbar-Stiftung for the promotion of art and science (since 2018)

Member of the faculty council, evaluation officer of the law faculty and active in various other committees of the faculty and the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf.
