Russel L. Honoré
Russel L. Honoré (* 1947 in Lakeland , Louisiana ) is a retired Lieutenant General in the US Army and was Commanding General of the 1st US Army at Fort Gillem , Georgia from 2004 until his retirement in 2008 .
Life
He is partly of Afro-American origin. Honoré was given responsibility for providing military assistance in the context of disaster relief following Hurricane Katrina in the southern states of Mississippi , Alabama and Louisiana . There he was praised, among others, by the Mayor of New Orleans , Ray Nagin , for his direct commitment.
Before this deployment, he held command posts in the United States as well as Germany , the Netherlands , Saudi Arabia and Korea , including command of the 2nd US Infantry Division from 2000 to 2002 .
