Svetlin Russew

Svetlin Waltschew Russew (common transcription: Svetlin Valchev Rusev; Bulgarian Академик Светлин Вълчев Русев ; born June 14, 1933 in Wurbiza near Pleven ; † May 26, 2018 ) was a Bulgarian painter.

Life

Russew studied since 1955 at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia . He graduated in 1959 as a student of Detschko Usunow . In 1961 he received a gold medal at an exhibition of young artists in Sofia. Between 1973 and 1985 he was chairman of the Association of Bulgarian Painters . From 1985 to 1988 he was director of the National Art Gallery in Sofia. Member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences since 2003. He is also a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Nika-Kei Salon in Tokyo.

His paintings are in many galleries and private art collections around the world. Russew himself bequeathed a large part of his works to his hometown in 1984. The city of Pleven built its own museum for its art collection, where it can be seen in a permanent exhibition. Russev lives and works in Sofia today. His works are also the exterior and interior paintings in the church "Holy 40 Martyrs" in the Tsarevets castle in Veliko Tarnovo and in the church "Sweta Petka" blessed by Baba Wanga . in the Rupite monastery , with Petritsch . He himself was considered a great art lover and collector.
