Rustam Rahimov

Rustam Rachimow (born February 16, 1975 in Dushanbe ; actually Rustamhodscha Rachimow ) is a German amateur boxer of Tajik origin.

Rahimov started boxing at the age of twelve. In 1995, he left his team at the World Cup in Berlin and applied for asylum in Germany . After he was not allowed to box for seven years, he was naturalized in 2002 and has competed for the German national relay ever since.

Rachimow became German champion in 2002 and 2003 in featherweight and in 2005, 2006 and 2007 in bantamweight. At the 2003 World Cup in Bangkok , he lost in the semi-finals against local hero Somjit Jongjohor and finished third. Rachimow then took part in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens for Germany and won a bronze medal in the flyweight division when he lost to the eventual Olympic champion Yuriolkis Gamboa from Cuba .

For this medal he received the silver bay leaf on March 16, 2005.

He achieved another third place at the 2004 European Championships in Pula .

In 2005 he won silver at the bantamweight championship in Mianyang . He beat the American young star Gary Russell junior , but lost to the Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux in the final . At the military world championship in 2006, the sports soldier also took second place. He had less success at the 2007 World Cup in Chicago , where he was eliminated in the second round against Kazakh Mirschan Rachishanov . With a third place at the first European Olympic qualification tournament in Italy, he acquired the right to start in the bantamweight (up to 54 kg) at the 2008 Olympic Games in China .

On August 12, 2008 Rachimow retired in the first Olympic round in bantamweight. He was clearly defeated by the favorite Xurshid Tojiboyev with 11: 2 points. Rachimow was the last boxing hope for the Germans at this Olympia, as the other three German boxers were also eliminated in the days before. No German boxer got into the second round.

After his playing career, Rachimov became a coach. Since 2012 he has been part of the coaching team of the World Series of Boxing team German Eagles together with Valentin Silaghi , Michael Timm and Zoltan Lunka .
