The Rustavi International Motor Park is a motorsport race track on the outskirts of the Georgian city of Rustavi . It is located about 20 km from the capital Tbilisi and is considered the first professional race track in the Caucasus region.

history

The “Rustavi” race track is the last race track built in the Soviet Union . Opened in 1978, it was 4040 meters long and between 12 and 18 meters wide. The racetrack complex included a go- kart track , an autocross and motorcycle track as well as an uncovered grandstand for around 800 spectators; a workshop and a hotel were in the immediate vicinity. The first races took place in 1979. Between 1979 and 1989 a total of 11 USSR championship races were held there. After the collapse of the Soviet Union , the line was forgotten for a while and the aged and damaged track surface became impassable.

In 2009, the route was acquired by the private company Stromos at a state auction and rebuilt in 2011–2012 in accordance with FIA rules. In April 2011, FIA President Jean Todt visited the construction site to assess the reconstruction.

The official opening took place on April 29, 2012, and was attended by Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili , who personally sat behind the wheel of a Formula 3 racing car.

reconstruction

Rustavi International Motorpark

The racetrack has been completely reconstructed, but with a lot of curve changes. The landscape was considerably altered, around 250,000 m 3 of soil was moved during the renovation work. Two grandstands were built - one covered for 2000 spectators and an open one with standing room for 3000. The pit lane contains 28 boxes built according to FIA standards. On the second floor above the boxes there is an additional grandstand as well as offices, a conference room and a restaurant for around 200 guests. There is a race control tower above.

The start / finish straight has been extended to 1/2 mile and can be used as a drag racing track .

safety

After the reconstruction, the racetrack meets all the safety requirements of FIA (racetracks) category 2 , which allows races of almost all championships, including GP2 .

Events and events

In 2012, a series of motorsports events took place on the track, including race of the Open Georgian Formula Alfa championship and the Legends Cars , drag racing , drift races and many others. The average entry price is around 3 euros, and tickets can be purchased on site. The television coverage is provided by the Georgian Public Radio . Since July 14, 2012, bets for the Formula Alfa and Legends classes can be placed with a local provider.

Teams

The racetrack serves as the base for numerous newly established racing teams such as Gulf Racing, Liberty Bank Racing, MIA Force, Adjara, VTB Bank and GPB.
