Ruth Gassmann
Ruth Gassmann (born March 1, 1935 in Augsburg ; † August 7, 2020 in Munich ) was a German actress , singer and assistant director. She became known in the late 1960s in the role of Helga in the educational films of the same name .
Live and act
Ruth Gassmann received an acting and singing education. In 1956 she made her first contact with film in GW Pabst's last production, Durch den Wälder durch die Auen , in which she assisted.
In 1963 she was hired to play the leading role of a doctor in the highly speculative film Devil in the Meat , which takes up the subject of venereal diseases . In the following year she took part in the female lead in the opera adaptation Die Baßgeige , directed by Wolfgang Liebeneiner . Her vocal part was taken over by Catherine Gayer. Gassmann became known in the late 1960s in the lead role of Helga in the educational films of the same name , which were hugely successful at the box office. At this time, Gassmann also played theater and took play contracts on Munich theaters.
At the beginning of the 1970s, she began to move her field of activity backstage and worked as an assistant director (for example at the opera of the Saarbrücken State Theater ). She also performed there as a singer. She was also able to put her singing skills to the test in the television operetta On the Green Meadow , alongside the Austrian tenor Peter Minich . Since the early 1970s, the artist has been a little forgotten beyond the theater.
Ruth Gassmann's husband was a nuclear physicist . Their marriage resulted in two daughters and a son. She died in Munich in August 2020 at the age of 85.
