Helga and Michael is a German educational film from 1968. Ruth Gassmann plays the title role here for the second time, after Helga - Vom Werden des Menschen Leben (1967). Felix Franchy plays her husband Michael.

action

As in “Helga - From Becoming Human Life”, this film is also designed as a combination of documentary and feature film, and here, too, questions of sexuality and partnership are at the center of the plot. How can men and women find each other if they have not yet found themselves and have not really defined and postulated their own needs? The “model” couple Helga and Michael have a child together, and the question arises of sensible family planning and how the respective partners define themselves in their new roles. The development of the baby in this young marriage partnership between Helga and Michael is also outlined in the context of a constantly and constantly changing, modern society. In the documentary part, young couples with problems who seek their salvation in marriage counseling are contrasted with young married happiness. The events shown are to be scientifically supported with excerpts from the reports of the sex researchers Kinsey and Master / Johnson.

Production notes

Helga and Michael was made after the great success of the first film in this trilogy - in 1969 Helga and the Men - The Sexual Revolution was to follow - in mid-1968 and was premiered on October 31, 1968.

criticism

The Lexicon of International Films found the film to be "well-intentioned" but at the same time as a "simple and wooden enlightenment lesson."
