Ruth Heilmann

Marie Margrethe Ruth Ane Thomsen Heilmann (born April 5, 1945 in Arsuk ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Siumut ) and teacher .

Life

Ruth Heilmann was trained as a teacher in Sisimiut until 1987 . In 1989 she was elected to the Maniitsoq Township Council. In 1995 she was first elected to the Inatsisartut . From 1997 to 2001 she was mayor of the municipality. in December 2002 she briefly became Minister for Education, Church, Culture and Research and shortly thereafter in January 2003 Minister for Family and Health. This Naalakkersuisut existed until 2005. From 2008 to 2009 she was the first female speaker of parliament after Jonathan Motzfeldt resigned on suspicion of sexual harassment. In the 2014 election she was not re-elected to the Inatsisartut. In 2016 she was awarded the Nersornaat in gold.
