Ruth Henschel

Ruth Henschel (* 1904 in Gleiwitz ; † 1982 ) was a German graphic designer and textile artist.

Life

From 1930 to 1933 she studied in the painting class of Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee and in the weaving class of Gunta Stölzl and Lily Reich at the Bauhaus in Dessau, where she met her partner, the artist Erich Henschel (1907–1984). In 1934 she attended the textile school in Langenbielau , where she completed a journeyman's examination. Together with Erich Henschel, she moved to Königsberg in 1935, where he was the artistic director of the Deutsche Ostmesse and planned special and teaching shows. The couple settled in Löwenstein- Hirrweiler in 1947 and worked there freelance in the field of graphic and object design. The couple were members of the Heilbronn Artists' Association .

Ruth Henschel's work primarily includes woven carpets, but also free graphics and architectural art . She has created numerous works of art on behalf of the public. These include, above all, her tapestries for the deaconess mother house in Gunzenhausen and the sanatorium in Bad Brückenau . Also in Gunzenhausen, she took over the mosaic for the altar wall in the deaconess mother house and the facade design of the boarding school. Some of her works have been acquired by the public sector, including a. from the Bauhaus Archive and the Museum of Design in Berlin, from the Stuttgart Regional Council as well as from the Heilbronn District Office and the City of Heilbronn.
