Ruth Kasirye (born June 10, 1982 in Mukono , Uganda ) is a Norwegian weightlifter .

Career

Ruth Kasirye came to Norway in 1998. She took part as the Norwegian flag bearer in the 2008 Olympic Summer Games , where she was able to achieve seventh place in the category up to 63 kg with a total performance of 224 kg.

At the 2005 World Championships, the Norwegian was twelfth in the weight class up to 58 kg with an output of 185 kg. In 2006 she finished 14th with 191 kg. A year later, Kasirye took eighth place with 209 kg.

She won the silver medal at the 2007 European Championships in the category up to 58 kg with a total performance of 210 kg. At the European Championships in 2008 she was fourth in the category up to 63 kg with an output of 222 kg. In 2009 Kasirye won the silver medal of the European Championships in the class up to 63 kg with a duel result of 231 kg.

At the 6th Eleiko Women Grand Prix, which was held on May 22nd and 23rd, 2009 in Lochen , (Austria), she finished 2nd with 285.09 Sinclair points, just behind the 17-year-old junior World champion in the 69 kg class Abir Khalil from Egypt, who achieved 285.30 points. Kasirye's performance in pushing at 130 kg is a new national record in the 63 kg class.

At the World Championships in 2009 she reached 10th place with 226 kg (103 kg + 123 kg) in a total of only three valid attempts. In 2010 she competed in the European Weightlifting Championships in the 69 kg class and finished 5th in the duel with 229 kg (= 104 kg + 125 kg) because the originally third-placed Shemshat Tuliayeva from Belarus was subsequently disqualified for doping. In 2011 she competed again in the 63 kg class at the European Championships and came fourth with 219 kg (= 98 kg + 121 kg) in both the duel and individual disciplines.

At the 2011 World Championships , with 220 kg in a duel (= 98 kg + 122 kg), she took 13th place in the 63 kg class and 12th place in each of the snatch and bump in only three valid attempts. At the European Championships in 2012 she reached fifth place in both individual disciplines, in the overall ranking 6th place with 227 kg (103 kg + 124 kg) behind the equally powerful but lighter Belarusian Hanna Batsiushka .
